We’ve all been there. Time is running out and you have to get dinner on the table. What do you do? Call for take out? Crawl under the covers and pretend to be sick?
Relax. Don’t panic. Here are a few easy tips that can help have dinner on the table in a jiffy.
1. Have meats pre-portioned in the freezer. This may add a little time and work after a grocery trip, but it is well worth it in the long run. Portion your meats into a size you use most often. Even though I have a family of 6, I still portion it out for 2 or 4. This helps because some nights it’s just my hubby and I. It also allows me to stretch my meat further. For our family of 6, I still only use 1 lb of hamburger for lasagne, spaghetti, shepherds pie and so on.
2. Keep staples well stocked. When you have your “go-to” items at hand, it makes preparation much easier. How many times have you stood in your pantry and thought of meal ideas only to find that you don’t have 1 main ingredient? Keep extras on hand.
3. Have a nice refrigerator with a good size freezer. I am not just saying this because this post will be posted in TwitterMoms Samsung Sweepstakes, this is the truth. When you have large freezer capacity, you can stock up on meats when they are at their lowest prices (which helps with #1). With the larger space, you can also make meals up ahead of time and keep them frozen until you need them. Having the larger space will also help you stay organized. Of course, remember FIFO – First In , First Out. Keep your stock rotated to keep it at its freshest.
