DIY: Homemade Febreze — just $0.15 per bottle!

Here is a great way to make Febreze at home for a fraction of the cost!

1/8 Cup of fabric softener (I used Downy April Fresh)
2 tablespoons Baking Soda
Hot tap water
Spray bottle

Preparation:
Using a funnel, pour fabric softener and baking soda into your spray bottle. Fill spray bottle with hot tap water and shake well.

Store-bought Febreze: $5.59
Homemade Febreze: $0.15
Total Savings: $5.44 OR 97.3%!

DIY: Honey Lip Balm

Here is an easy recipe for Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Honey Lip Balm. This might be a fun event to get the kids involved in.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup Natural Beeswax (grated)

1/4 cup Coconut Oil

10-12 drops of Lemon Essential Oil

1 teaspoon of Honey

2 drops of Vitamin E Oil

12 small plastic containers with lids

Instructions:

1- Place grated beeswax and coconut oil in heatproof glass bowl.

2- In medium saucepan, heat 1 1/2 cups water to boiling. Carefully place glass dish in boiling water; stir as wax begins to melt. When melted, remove bowl from saucepan.

3- Stir in lemon essential oil, honey and vitamin E oil. Immediately pour into small containers, using small funnel. Cover; cool completely.

YUM! Strawberry Cheesecake French Toast Recipe!

This looks delicious! Try it out, and let us know how it turned out!

Ingredients

• 2 eggs
• 1/2 cup milk
• 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
• 8 ounces cream cheese
• 12 slices white bread
• 1 cup sliced fresh strawberries
• Butter, for cooking
• Maple syrup, for serving
• Strawberry Syrup, for serving, recipe follows
• Confectioners’ sugar, for serving

Directions

In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and granulated sugar. Spread the cream cheese on half of the bread slices and top with strawberries. Top with the remaining 6 bread slices and press around the edges to seal.

Melt butter on a griddle over medium-low heat. Dip the sandwiches in the egg mixture for a few seconds on each side. Cook the sandwiches until golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Serve with maple syrup, Strawberry Syrup, or confectioners’ sugar.

Strawberry Syrup:

• 3 cups sliced strawberries
• 1 cup granulated sugar
• Zest and juice of 1 lemon

In a medium saucepan, combine all the ingredients and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer until the strawberries are soft and the syrup is thickened and reduced by 1/3 to 1/2 in volume, 15 to 18 minutes.

Remove from the heat and let cool to room temperature before serving.

Cook’s Note: If a thinner syrup is desired, strain the hot syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a clean container and let cool.

DIY Homemade Zebra Cakes!

Oh my! Homemade Zebra Cakes! Here is a list of the ingredients needed:

INGREDIENTS

Yellow cake mix, plus ingredients to prepare.

1/2 cup (8 Tablespoons) shortening

1/4 cup marshmallow creme/fluff

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup powdered sugar

1-2 tablespoons half and half or heavy cream

4 cups vanilla candy melts  (or roughly 16 oz vanilla almond bark)

8 Tablespoons vegetable shortening

1/2 cup dark chocolate candy melts (or almond bark)

DIY Homemade Lemon Facial Cleanser

Here is a great DIY (Do It Yourself) Lemon Facial Cleanser that only requires 3 ingredients. You may have heard about this on the Dr. Oz Show.

Unleash the anti-aging power of lemons with this homemade facial cleanser. The acid from the lemons will rid your skin of outbreak-causing bad bacteria while the healthy probiotics from the yogurt will infuse your skin with good bacteria.

Ingredients:

1 tbsp natural yogurt
1 tsp lemon juice
2 drops essential lemon oil

Directions:

Mix all ingredients together

Soak a cotton wool pad in mixture and remove makeup

Repeat with fresh cotton wool pads until make up is removed

DIY: Treating Sore, Cracked and Stinky Feet

If you wear flip flops or sandals often, you know that it is easy for your feet to become cracked and sore. They can even start a dirty, dark layer of skin.

Here is an easy solution using items you most likely have at home already.

Please note, if you have diabetes, you need to take special care of your feet and should always seek doctors advice.

An easy six-step solution:

1. Put shaving cream on your feet.
2. In a bucket or sink, combine equal parts warm water and Listerine.
3. Soak a small hand towel in the solution of water and Listerine.
4. While the shaving cream is still on your feet wrap the wet hand towel around your feet and let it sit for 30 minutes.
5. After 30 minutes, use the towel to rub your feet. Some of the calloused and discolored skin will rub off.
6. Apply a healthy amount of lotion to your feet.

This process literally takes a layer of skin off of your feet so only do this once a week.

Vinegar is something we all have on hand or can easily obtain at the store. But, did you realize how versatile of a cleaning agent it is?

45 Uses for Vinegar

Here are some of my favorites…

Save a Garment:  To remove light scorch marks on fabrics, rub gently with vinegar. Wipe with a clean cloth. This technique also works on antiperspirant stains.

Banish weeds. Pour white distilled vinegar on the weeds growing in the cracks of your walkway and driveway. Saturate the plant so the vinegar reaches the roots.

Put an end to itching. Dab a cotton ball soaked in white vinegar on mosquito bites and insect stings. It will stop them from itching and help disinfect the area so they heal faster.

Prevent cracked eggs. Prevent eggs from cracking as they hard-boil by adding two tablespoons of white vinegar to the water. The eggs will stay intact, and the shells will peel off more easily when you’re ready to eat them.

Loosen a rusted screw. Pour vinegar onto the screw, and it will easily unstick.

Restore showerhead pressure. If your showerhead gets clogged with mineral deposits, soak it for 15 minutes in a mixture of ½ cup vinegar and 1 quart water.

Prep for summer grilling. To remove charcoal buildup from your grill, spray white distilled vinegar on balled up aluminum foil and scrub the grate thoroughly.

Easter DIY Craft Idea!

You can do this craft easily with your kids, and it is fairly cheap to make. You can find most of the items in the $1 section of  Target, Walmart, or even the Dollar Tree!

You will need:

Paper Cups

Plastic Eyeballs

Feathers or Easter Grass to add to the inside

Pink and white felt

Pipe Cleaners

Pom Poms

Hot glue and hot glue gun to attach your pieces to the paper cup

When you have your cup ready you will add the plastic eye balls to the bunny or chick (whichever one you decide to make)

Next you can make whiskers to add to your bunny, or feet to your chick with pipe cleaners

Add a pink pom pom to the nose of the bunny

Cut pink and white felt for the ears of the bunny

Fill with feathers or Easter Grass!

So easy to make, and so much fun for the kids to do!

Warning: Glue guns get super hot so make sure your little ones don’t try to do this alone.

Great DIY Sink Extender for Kids!

Tania found this pin on Pinterest and we just thought it was great!

I really could have used a sink extender when my guys were little and this wouldn’t have costed anything!

How to Create Sink Extender:

• Cut an ‘X’ in the bottom of a plastic bottle (keeps the bottle from moving around)
• Next, cut the top off and along the side as shown.

I would be sure to take some fine grain sandpaper to make sure the edges are not sharp for those curious little fingers.

Homemade Instant Oatmeal Recipe

All of our kids love flavored instant oatmeal in the mornings and I like that it is healthy for them! And now, this recipe is a great way to save too!

You can make this for your busy mornings, for when you are camping or even in a hotel microwave!

Homemade Instant Oatmeal Recipe

• 1/4 Cup Quaker Quick Oats
• 1  tblsp Domino brown sugar
• 1 tblsp Carnation instant dry milk

Add approximately 3 – 4 tablespoons hot water or microwave as you would your instant oatmeal packs. You can  make it ahead of time and pack in a hefty baggie so everything is all measured out. For a diet version just omit the milk and switch to Domino light sugar. You likely won’t notice the difference.

You just can’t beat tips and tricks from people who have ‘been-there-done-that’.

InThisCrazyLife-Bethany has compiled a list of 35 such great tips.

Some of my favorites are…

1. Use a Dish Drainer (can be found at dollar stores) to organize pot lids or Tupperware lids.

6. Store lettuce in the waxpaper bag from the inside of a cereal box and it will last twice as long.

9. To prevent hair and dirt from sticking to your baseboards, after cleaning them rub a dryer sheet over the surface. The fabric softener will help to repel dirt. Just remember to re-apply every so often.

26. Reheat pizza in a skillet on the stove to make an extra crispy crust.

30. A piece of chalk placed into your silverware bag will draw in moisture and prevent the silver from tarnishing.
