3 New Uses for Old Things: Toilet Paper Roll, Ketchup Bottle and Shower Cap!

RealSimple.com has a great article about how to reuse 50 different items. Here are a couple of my favorites!

Reuse a toilet paper roll to clip hair barrettes and hair ties. No more trying to find them in a rush in the morning.

When traveling, use a shower cap to put your shoes in. This will protect your clothes from any dirt or mud that may be on the shoes.

Fill an old (clean :) ) Ketchup bottle with pancake mix. This will allow you to pour with no mess! How cool is that. Why didn’t I think of that!?

Chore BINGO! A Great Way to Motivate Kids to do their Chores!

I saw this idea over at Passionate Penny Pincher and just thought it was great.

I know that kids have more motivation about chores if they have some ‘say-so’. Here is a way that your kids can choose what chores they do and get rewarded for them.

For instance, get one BINGO and they can get a small prize. Get two – get a bigger prize. Fill the card and get the Grand Prize.

Head over to The Organized Wife to read how to make these cards!

4th of July Patriotic Drink

Here is a neat Patriotic Drink to make on the 4th of July!

Using beverages with varying amounts of sugar, you can make a red, white and blue drink (for a little bit anyway – then they will mix).

Ingredients:

Ice Cubes
Cranberry Juice
Wild Berry Gatorade Fierce
Diet 7-up

Directions:

Fill glass with ice cubes.
Pour Cranberry Juice in first.
Very slowly pour Wild Berry Gatorade Fierce into the glass. Be sure to pour on the ice cubes and not directly into the cranberry juice.
Do the same thing for the top layer using Diet 7-up.

I assume these would taste like a punch of sorts once they mix.

Also a great way to teach the kids about varying densities!

Thanks, Family Fun

DIY Science Experiment: Walking on Eggs!

If you are like me, you like for your kids to do some mind-enriching activities over the summer (other than play video games…ugh).

However, motivating your kids to do so can be a challenge.

Well, I think your kids would be up for this experiment!

We used to do an egg drop. The kids could choose to pack their egg in any way they felt would protect it when dropped from a height of around 10 feet. They could use anything they found in the house. They had a great time doing this. But, I know they would have loved this walking on eggshells even better!

Head over to Steve Spangler Science to see how to pull off this feat!
